Food Galore Weekend November 25, 2019 Diana

Food Galore Weekend

Weekends are best spent with loved ones. We both love food and cooking. Last weekend was food galore for us! From burger joints to schnitzel house, French market, our local pub and finally some home cooking. Nothing beats winding up the weekend with a home cooked meal.

We wrapped up the working week at Burger Republic. Those who know me would know I love my Korean cuisine. There is nothing a kimchi cannot fix. I consider kimchi as my comfort food and it’s a good source of probiotic. Kimchi is delicious with ramen. Kimchi is delicious on its own and kimchi with a chicken burger was pretty dam good. The only let down was that the chicken was overcooked and a tad dry. But the combination of kewpie mayo and kimchi was like match made in heaven.

Lost and Barrel in Norwood, now known as the Schnitzel House used to be one of our favourite casual hang out. It was a perfect hang out joint for us as it carried a wide range of craft beer (for him) and stout (for me). We stopped hanging out at this joint after it changed to Schnitzel House. Last Saturday, we decided to head there for some lunch (only because we saw a Groupon offer and thought ok let’s try it out). We were very impressed with our meal. The scotch fillet steak was cooked to perfection and we both had our thirst quench. The verdict…we will be visiting this place more often.

It was a lovely Saturday, the sun was out and so we decided to spend some time outdoors. We went back to the French Market that took place in Unley for a glass of bubbles. The atmosphere was buzzing. Families were enjoying the festivities, kids were playing and we were people watching while sipping our bubbles. There were heaps of food that were on sale so we decided to get some Paella for dinner.

We started the day with some whole grain, protein packed pancake. We tried jazzing up the flavour by adding some butter and chili flakes. That’s right you heard me right. Chilli flakes! This was inspired by my favourite chili flake parmesan sourdough! Oh just thinking about me makes want to have some now!

The weather was amazing on Sunday and we were tempted to dine at our local pub and enjoy some sunshine. I felt a little Asian so I decided to have some duck ramen with sous vide egg. I was expecting the kind sous vide egg my partner makes i.e. oozy runny yolk. That is the best kind of egg to eat. Unfortunately, my sous vide egg yolk wasn’t runny. The broth however was tasty and punched with heaps of flavour and as such I closed one eye on the egg situation.

After so much food over the weekend, we decided to end it with a simple home cooked meal. Simple roast chicken, sous vide corn and some refreshing salad. Heaps of leftover from the chicken that will be my lunch for the week.

It was a perfect weekend with good food and my loved one. It totally reset me to face the new week.
